Man Arrested in Connection with Arson at UK Prime Minister's Former Residence

London police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a series of arson incidents, including a fire at the former residence of UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer. The suspect was taken into custody on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life, following an early-morning blaze that damaged the door of Starmer's private house in north London. The Prime Minister and his family were not present at the time of the incident, as they have been residing in the official Downing Street residence since Starmer took office in July.

The Metropolitan Police have indicated that the investigation also encompasses two other fires believed to be linked to the same suspect. These include a vehicle fire near Starmer's house on Sunday and a door fire at another property in north London on May 8. The latter property, a house converted into apartments, is also associated with Starmer. Authorities have confirmed that there were no injuries reported from any of the incidents.

Counterterrorism detectives are leading the investigation, citing the property's 'previous connections with a high-profile public figure' as the reason for their involvement. A neighbor, Charles Grant, recounted that police searched his yard, mentioning they were 'looking for a projectile.' Grant speculated, based on conversations with others, that a firebomb might have been thrown at Starmer's house.

This is not the first time Starmer's residence has been the focus of protest activity. Last year, three pro-Palestinian activists were arrested after displaying a banner with red handprints outside the building. The recent incidents have sparked concerns over the safety of public figures, with opposition leader Kemi Badenoch of the Conservative Party condemning the acts as 'a shocking incident' and emphasizing that no one in public service should face such threats.
